Let's face it. Guys love beef and most women crave a hunk of juicy beefcake now and then too. Those grass eating docile bovine beasts really are the royalty of meat and as a species we humans are carnivores and need the vitamins, minerals and amino acids in this tasty hunk of juicy red flesh to make big brains and keep our muscles strong. Of course when thinking about beef I want to eat a sizzling 16 ounce rib-eye steak that seared on the outside and warm and red on the inside. Eating 16 ounces of beef probably isn't the most healthy way to enjoy the best. A suggested serving of beef is about 4 ounces or less. That's a decent burger, an excellent steak and cheese and a hearty serving of satisfying fajitas but it does mean leaving the Porterhouse or Rib-Eyes for special occasions unless you have more self control then this Fat Guy. However, a nice fillet mignon, grilled flank steak or lean roast beef fits perfectly into a healthy diet plan. Choice Flank Steak has only 55 calories per ounce and 93% lean ground beef is just over 40 calories per ounce. Even the 80% lean ground beef is only 60 calories per ounce so while I highly recommend then leaner stuff, even eating a 80% burger from your own grill isn't going to kill you. Of course add bacon, cheese, mayonnaise and a hand full of potato chips is going to put you way over the top. Beef is packed with vitamin B12 which is only found in animal protein. The leaner cuts are low in saturated fats and cholesterol and all beef is high in protein. While us Fat Guy's trying to lose weight may need to cut back on our beef intake, we don't have to leave it off the table and can enjoy it in moderation. Check out some of our favorite beef recipes. They should keep you satisfied but if you're going to be doing you own here are some tips to help you stay reasonable with eating this beautiful bovine beat.
