If you're a Fat Guy like me and don't have someone else doing the cooking for you then you might consider learning a few things. I know it's a little more work then ordering a pizza but it can be fun, save you a lot of money and it's not as hard as you think. Outside of a stove, a refrigerator and a sink there really isn't that much else that you need to get started but I've created a list to help you focus on the essentials.
Cooking Essentials 101
-
A 10" top 12" Non-Stick Fry Pan or Skillet
-
3 Quart Pot with a lid for boiling grains and vegetables
-
6 - 8 Quart Dutch Oven for soups, pasta and stews
-
Non-Metal Spatula to remove items from the fry pan
-
A wooden Spoon
-
Nylon Tongs to pick food up
When selecting pots and pans, quality makes a big difference. Go to a good store and check out the top of the line cooking gear. See how it feels, understand how it's constructed, what it's made of and how thick it is. You don't need the top of the line but you want something that feels good, looks study and is made of similar material as the good stuff. Then go and find something as close as possible within your budget. No rubber handles please.
