Are you really ready to lose weight? I'm not trying to challenge you but there's no point in setting yourself up for failure and maybe you're just making a knee jerk reaction to something that's going to cause you to fail.
Before you start thinking about losing weight and keeping it off you might want to ask yourself, "Is this a good time to change my eating and exercise habits?" Maybe it is and maybe it's not. If it's not you might want to weight to get on the scale. That doesn't mean you should stuff your face and eat like a big fat pig until you're ready to start. Now is always a good time to change some small things in your life and take better care of yourself.
Ask yourself these questions
- Are you currently going through some stressful times that will encourage you to fall back on the old habits that put the pounds on? Stress at home or work can cause us to either lose or gain weight.
- Do you have the support of friends and family in losing weight? Remember my Big Fat Greek Wedding?
- Are you willing to become more physically active? That was a big one for my fat ass.
- Are you ready to make LONG TERM commitment? You probably did put on the pounds in a month so don't expect to lose it all that quickly.
- Do you view this as a positive experience? Unless you're afraid of death without weight loss you need to find positive ways to stay motivated.
- Do you have any eating orders that need to be addressed? Kate Moss may diet but she doesn't really need to lose any more weight.
If there are things that are going to stand in your way of being successful then maybe you need to address those before you start on a long term weight loss program. There are two big advantages to waiting until you're ready though.
- You can start making small changes right away. Start eating a healthy breakfast, eat 2 pieces of fruit a day, try a few of the halt recipes here and simple things like that. Then when you're ready to start for real you'll have a head start.
- You can get distractions in order and bring closure to them. If there are things that are causing you unnecessary stress that will keep you from success then you can close them first. Once you start your long term weight loss program you know those other bad things must be over else you wouldn't be starting something new. Isn't that a great way to bring closure to something and move forward in a better direction?
